Student answer (Band 6.0)

Eventhough, the availability of foreign goods have been accessible of products in the market, some people still prefer buying local products which are made in their country. The main factor that attributes this could be the cost of goods and the support to the community by choosing one over other. From my perspective, this is positive trend as the money will stay within the nation which can lead to prosperous society by each others development.

Primary reason is the upfront cost of the product. As most foriegn goods are expensive due to the import duty that is attached to it than their similar alternatives which can be found 20 to 30 percent cheaper as they are made locally. This saves a portion of their spending for other purchases or future savings for their other plans. For example, local merchandise like clothes are cheaper to own than imported ones with little to no differences in quality which saves atleast 20 percent of money that could go towards their investment for better future planning.

Secondly, if people choose local products the money will circulate inside the community which can help grew many businesses and thereby creating more jobs in the community for better living condition which will not be the case if foreign goods are selected as this support outside businesses which has no interest or part in the development of community. Furthermore, this can help drive the economy better by thiving bussiness to shops and manufacturers as they create job and pay taxes to our government which can be used to build better infrastructure and planning in the nearby communities.

In conclusion, this pattern of choosing local products over foreign have many advantages to the people in direct and indirect way as this support over economy positively which empower more businesses to start upon thereby creating country first mindset.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the question: you give reasons for choosing local goods, especially lower prices and support for local businesses, and clearly state that you see this as a positive trend. The examples about cheaper clothing and money creating jobs and funding public services are relevant. Your position is also consistent in the conclusion. To make the response more fully developed, explain the reasons with greater precision and balance: for instance, the claim that imported goods are more expensive could be qualified, since prices vary by product, and the community benefits could be illustrated with a specific example. The final idea about a “country first mindset” is not explained, so its connection to the argument remains unclear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Primary reason,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument, and the ideas generally progress from personal savings to wider economic benefits. However, some links are mechanical, and several sentences contain too many connected claims, particularly the long sentence beginning “Furthermore, this can help drive the economy.” The reference in “this support outside businesses” is also not fully clear. Use more varied transitions and divide long sentences so each cause-and-effect step is easy to follow. The paragraphing is appropriate, but clearer links between examples and claims would strengthen progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “import duty,” “circulate,” “infrastructure,” and “investment,” and you attempt to express economic effects beyond simple price comparisons. However, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision: “foriegn,” “atleast,” “thiving bussiness,” and “creating country first mindset” are examples. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “upfront cost of the product” when discussing a general reason and “support over economy.” These choices do not prevent the main message from being understood, but they sometimes make the reader pause. Check spelling carefully and learn common word partnerships, such as “boost local businesses” and “support the national economy,” before using more ambitious vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including clauses with “as,” “which,” and “if,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. Some grammatical errors remain, especially in agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “the availability of foreign goods have been accessible” has an unclear and faulty structure, while “this is positive trend” needs an article. In “which can help grew many businesses,” the verb form after “help” is incorrect; “which has no interest” also does not agree with the plural “businesses.” Several long sentences combine clauses without clear control, making relationships harder to follow. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and split complex sentences when needed; this will help you show greater control while retaining structural variety.
