Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays it becomes more spreaded when some consumers prefer buying things in supermarkets which are made in their area instead of choosing imported goods.

From my perspective, there are a lot of reasons which expain this tendencion. Firstly, majority of local goods are cheaper than imported because of expensive logistic and additional taxes. Foreign things are supposed to cost more because companies spend more time and efforts to bring it to another country than in the. That means some customers can choose local staff over imported because of financial reasons. They want to save money especially when the quality of products are mostly the same or even better. Secondly, some people make this decision because of the patriotic reasons. If they buy goods which are produced in your own country against others, then the taxes will go to their homeland. Additionaly, they expect it will make their country's economy and small business stronger.

I truly believe that this is a positive trend because supporting local businesses has a positive impact on the economy. So, this decision encourage the business in your own country to produce more and to grow. If customers buy their products, then organizations have money for developing. Otherwise businesses in the country will decide to close and to go somewhere else where a profit will be higher. As a result, there will be higher unemployment a migration rates, less money in the goverment and weaker economy.

In conclusion, I think that buying local things is a good trend and there are some financial and patriotic reasons. This decision make a country stronger economy wise.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the question: you give two reasons—lower costs and patriotism—and clearly state that buying local goods is a positive trend. The economic explanation is relevant, and you extend your view by describing possible effects on businesses, employment and the national economy. However, the patriotic reason is less fully explained: the link between buying local products and taxes benefiting the country is asserted rather than clarified. Some consequences, such as businesses moving elsewhere and migration increasing, would also benefit from a more direct explanation or a specific example. To strengthen the response, develop each reason with a concrete illustration and explain how it supports your overall position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining reasons, a paragraph giving your opinion, and a conclusion. Sequencing is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “As a result,” and “In conclusion” help show the relationships between ideas. Some linking is mechanical, however, and several sentences repeat the same point about supporting the economy. References such as “your own country” also shift away from the essay’s general perspective and make the connection to the reader less consistent. For stronger progression, group related consequences together, use a wider range of natural transitions, and make each paragraph add a distinct step to the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “imported goods,” “patriotic reasons,” “small business,” “unemployment,” and “economy.” There are also attempts to express more specific concepts, such as “financial reasons” and “additional taxes.” However, noticeable word-choice, word-form and spelling errors reduce precision: “spreaded,” “expain,” “tendencion,” “staff” for goods, and “goverment” are examples. Some combinations are also unnatural, including “expensive logistic” and “a positive impact on the economy” followed by repeated uses of “stronger.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and word forms, and learn common collocations for trade and economic effects rather than translating phrases directly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional sentences (“If customers buy their products…”) and clauses introduced by “because” and “when.” These help you explain causes and consequences, and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors nevertheless recur, particularly with agreement, articles, pronouns and verb forms. For example, “this decision encourage” needs a singular verb, while “the quality of products are” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “bring it to another country,” the pronoun does not clearly agree with plural “things.” There are also awkward sentence constructions, such as “there will be higher unemployment a migration rates.” Review agreement and article use, and proofread each sentence for a clear subject and matching verb.
