Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent years, it has been observed that increasing motor vehicle traffic has become quite concerning, especially in urban areas. This problem has caused people to reach late at work and wastes precious time which can otherwise be productive and useful. However, these problems can be mitigated by governments to focus on improving public transport efficiency and individuals by relying more on rideshare, buses or trains.
To begin with, nowadays each member in a house has their own private vehicle to travel. Nobody is trying to leave their comfort zone by travelling in a public transport. People prefer driving their own vehicle to work each day, but what they are not realising is that it is degrading their lifestyle and draining most needed energy. For instance, if a person is sitting behind a steering wheel in traffic for hours before reaching the office, they will feel more frustrated and tired during the working hours and cannot use their mental ability and talents to their best.
The steps that can be taken by both governments and individuals to reduce this problem are not complicated or non-accessible. The authorities should increase their budget to improve public transport. If people can get easy access to buses and trains, they will be able to benefit most from it. Also, people should start relying more on public transport and ride shares which will be beneficial in saving their energy for the day.
In conclusion, I can say that any problem can be solved if the governments and individuals of our country can do their part on their own to help minimise the problems around us.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for reasons why consumers are choosing local goods over imported ones and whether this is a positive or negative trend. However, your essay discusses traffic congestion and public transport. Because you did not address the specific topic provided in the instructions, the response fails to meet the requirements of the task. In an actual IELTS exam, this would result in a very low score for Task Achievement as the content is irrelevant to the prompt provided. To improve, you must carefully read the prompt and ensure your arguments directly relate to the specific subject matter, which in this case is local versus imported goods.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical flow within the paragraphs themselves. You use transition signals such as 'To begin with', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion' to connect your ideas. While the content is irrelevant to the prompt, the structure of the writing is coherent. The progression of ideas is clear, and referencing is generally managed well. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring that the logical progression supports a relevant argument rather than just a well-structured but off-topic discussion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'mitigated', 'efficiency', 'degrading', and 'accessible'. The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the context of the essay you wrote, even though the topic is incorrect. There are no significant spelling errors that impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary, which would help you move into the higher band categories.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'If a person is sitting behind a steering wheel... they will feel more frustrated'. While there are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'reach late at work' (should be 'arrive late for work') and 'non-accessible' (should be 'inaccessible'), these errors do not impede communication. Your control of grammar is generally good, and you show an ability to construct complex sentences. Focusing on refining these minor errors and increasing the variety of complex structures will help improve your score further.
