Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, consumers prefer to buy good which are locally produced rather than importing it from somewhere else. This trend is viral now, and some social media influencers are also promoting this culture. In this essay, I will give reasons behind this culture and also deep dive into its positive and negative aspects. In my personal opinion, I favor this trend of choosing local goods over imported ones.
One of the prominent reason is social media, and secondary reason is economic awareness comes through the education system. Some social media influencers are making videos on the local grown products, in which they compare imported, high-cost, and popular products with its local alternatives or sometimes same locally available product. Because the people have internet and reliable resources to verify these facts, they find it true and beneficial so a significant number of people started following this trend.
First and foremost reason which make this trend positive is that it support local economy through creating demand for local produced products. It not only strengthen local businesses but also encourage them to level up the quality of their product which eventually results in strong, and self-reliant market of a nation. Additionally, local businesses can create more job opportunities in the market which also increasing the purchasing power of locals and create positive GDP growth.
In a recent central government scheme promoted by the leader of India where he appealed people of his country to buy local products instead of importing them shows a 1.2% growth in GDP and also reduced their foreign deficit by 46 million USD in a year. This example shows that if local people is start supporting their local business community by just shifting their goods selecting criteria can create a huge impact.
Based on above facts and examples, I have been always in support of buy local.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and expressing a clear position. The ideas are relevant, particularly the discussion on economic impact and the specific example of the Indian government scheme. However, the development is somewhat uneven; while the economic benefits are well-supported, the 'negative aspects' mentioned in the introduction are not actually explored in the body paragraphs, leaving that part of the task under-developed. To reach a higher band, ensure that all points mentioned in your introduction are balanced and fully addressed in the body of the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Additionally', and 'Based on above facts' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the phrase 'Based on above facts' which lacks a definite article. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the link between the introduction's promise to discuss negative aspects and the actual content is missing, which affects the overall coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at topic-specific language like 'purchasing power', 'foreign deficit', and 'self-reliant'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'local grown products' (should be 'locally grown'), 'goods selecting criteria' (should be 'criteria for selecting goods'), and 'buy local' (which functions as a verb phrase here but is used as a noun). While the meaning is always clear, the range is somewhat limited, and the lack of precision in word formation prevents a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('One of the prominent reason is', 'if local people is start supporting'), article usage ('the local grown products'), and pluralization ('buy good'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that plural nouns are used correctly after quantifiers or in general statements.
