Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people are choosing to purchase products that are produced domestically than buying from overseas because it ensures that the local economy to grows , encourages grass-root development of local business and its more cost effective. This can be seen as a positive development.
To begin, buying goods from that are locally produced are far cheaper than those imported from foreign countries. This is because majority of foreign good have imposed taxes which tend to increase the price range for similar goods that were produced locally.
Also, purchasing from local business help to promote the growth and development of those products which are produced in the state leading to more demands. More demands means more diversification of more industries for example , more branches of the business will be opened locally in several cities within the state .
This can be seen as a positive trend because it reduces a country reliance on imported items and encourages self reliance although this can lead to reduction in foreign exchange .Many people believe locally produced goods are of better quality then those made abroad because they know the source of the resources used to manufacture these produce.
To conclude , purchasing locally made products have its benefits and I believe its a positive trend because it increases a nation reliance on its own self and its more cost effective for the locals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive trend. However, the ideas are somewhat underdeveloped and repetitive. The essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of the arguments provided. While the position is clear, the supporting points—such as the mention of foreign exchange—are not fully explained or linked back to the main argument effectively. To improve, you should expand on your examples and ensure each paragraph provides a more detailed analysis of the points raised.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'To begin', 'Also', 'To conclude'). Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and the flow of ideas could be smoother. For instance, the transition from the economic benefits to the quality of goods is a bit sudden. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'products', and 'things'. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'majority of foreign good have imposed taxes' (should be 'goods' and 'tariffs') and 'more demands' (should be 'greater demand'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to economics and trade, and pay closer attention to pluralization and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('purchasing from local business help', 'purchasing locally made products have its benefits') and incorrect article usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
