Student answer (Band 7.0)
In the contemporary era, the trend of purchasing local products over imported goods has become popular. In my perspective, it is a positive development, and its implication may bear some merits.
The main idea behind choosing the local products is supporting local vendors and boost the economy of their own country. Moreover, spending money on local products not only gives satisfaction of quality of product, but also provides a sense of contributing in your community. In addition, it is really expensive to buy imported products due to high tariffs. For instance, last year, America increased the tariff rates on China imports, as a result, all products shipping from China have almost doubled in prices.
Although, this is indeed a positive trend because it not only provides you better quality but also inspires millions of small startups to build their brands. Furthermore, some governments are launching wonderful schemes and subsidies to support local people which is improving employment rates in country. For example, in India, government launched made in India project, which was based on producing products within India without importing outside goods. This project not only boosted the economy but also provided various jobs to local people. Additionally, local vendors try to improve the quality and provide products at better prices so that it could uphold the customer satisfaction.
To conclude, the idea of preferring local goods over the imported items finds itself surrounded by controversy. In my opinion, from close observation of this trend, supporting local vendors is a better choice.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and clearly stating your position that it is a positive development. Your ideas are relevant, such as the mention of economic support and government initiatives like the 'Make in India' project. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more depth, perhaps by discussing the potential downsides of localism (such as limited variety or higher costs for consumers) to provide a more balanced and nuanced argument, which would demonstrate a more thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'In addition,' and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear; for example, in the second paragraph, 'it' is used without a clear antecedent in the previous sentence. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the progression of ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus will help improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contemporary era,' 'tariffs,' and 'subsidies' correctly. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'contributing in your community' (should be 'to') and 'uphold the customer satisfaction' (should be 'maintain' or 'ensure'). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the overall range is somewhat limited. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Focusing on topic-specific vocabulary related to economics and consumer behavior will also enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a good start. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect the clarity of your writing. Examples include 'boost the economy' (should be 'to boost'), 'shipping from China have almost doubled in prices' (should be 'have almost doubled in price'), and 'in country' (should be 'in the country'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are noticeable. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly to avoid run-on or fragmented structures.
