Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some individuals making a conscious choice of choosing local goods, instead of imported products. There could be many reasons such as, consumers are aware about the quality of purchase and comparatively lower in price. It is definitely a positive trend which supports local venders to grow.

Firstly, many customers are aware of the food choices they make and highly depended on the quality of a product. If the items are locally made and they know the manufacturer history than it helps them to make a better choice. Milk for instance, is more fresh and organic in local stores rather than the imported ones which contain numbers of preservatives. On the other hand, locally made products will have a lower price and become more budget friendly.

It is definitely a positive trend because it helps to promote the local economy and reduce extra burden on government which goes by paying of tariff while depending on other countries. It supports the local venders for example, farmer's market has become more popular in younger generation due to fresh products and reasonable price availability.

In conclusion, it is positive change because of its ultimate benefits such as, it helps community sellers to grow and reduce the cost to import the goods. While many people making the mindful choice by selecting high quality and cost effective product made regionally.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive trend. However, the ideas are somewhat underdeveloped, and the essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments, such as the mention of 'manufacturer history' or 'government burden,' lack depth and specific elaboration. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or additional examples to ensure the response is fully developed and meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' to link your thoughts. However, the cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing. For example, the transition between the reasons for buying local and the benefits to the economy could be smoother. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the paragraphing and transitions need more sophistication to move beyond a band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'preservatives,' 'manufacturer history,' and 'cost-effective.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'paying of tariff' instead of 'paying tariffs' and 'venders' (spelled 'vendors'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and you rely on fairly simple phrasing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure correct spelling and word forms throughout your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Some individuals making a conscious choice' (missing a verb) and 'highly depended on' (should be 'highly dependent on'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'in younger generation' (should be 'in the younger generation'). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To achieve a higher score, focus on increasing the accuracy of your complex sentences and proofreading for basic grammatical slips.
