Student answer (Band 6.5)

With the changing trends, most people preferred to to purchase local goods over imported once. Its a positive development, because its lead to increase the local employment and would be environmentally friendly.

Firstly, locally produce commodities are easily available in the any area in reasonable prices. Secondly, these products are fresh as compared with imported goods. For instance, numbers of fruits, vegetables and packed food are imported from India to Canada which is not freshen comparatively local products and sometimes its smashed badly on the way, which is totally wasted. Moreover, the skilled artisans from rural area are getting a chance to build their talent and identity and make an income source with this.

On the other hand, Imported goods sometimes of lower quality and often nit fresh. This is because, internationally sourced goods like fruits and vegetables are generally frozen and not fresh to maintain their lifespan. For example, most imported products are made by variety of goods using cheaper pesticides and low-cost production methods in order to grow crops more quickly and reduce expenses. As a result, consumers now prefer buying domestically produced goods over imported ones.

In conclusion, people often buy domestic goods because of there lifespan and also its very cheap in rate as compared with an imported goods. Due to this, local jobs are also raising and its a source of income for desirable local economy who make the commodities by the use of there talent and ability. I believe that this is a positive trend as it is benefiting the locals and the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive trend. The position is clear from the introduction and maintained throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for example, the points about freshness and quality are mentioned in both the second and third paragraphs. To reach a higher band, you should ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported idea rather than restating similar points. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main arguments, though the supporting examples could be more specific to strengthen the overall argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'desirable local economy who make the commodities', where the connection between the economy and the people is imprecise. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'commodities', 'artisans', and 'pesticides'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'smashed badly', 'cheap in rate', and 'imported once' (instead of 'ones'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring you use the correct form of words in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'its lead to increase' (should be 'it leads to an increase'), 'locally produce commodities' (should be 'locally produced'), and 'there lifespan' (should be 'their'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of apostrophes. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the response, though they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your intended meaning. Increasing your focus on subject-verb agreement and basic proofreading would significantly improve your score.
