Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the trend and the writer's opinion. However, the essay is slightly under the 250-word minimum, which impacts the development of ideas. While the reasons (cost and economic support) are clear, the explanation is somewhat repetitive. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of the position. To improve, ensure all sections are fully developed and that the essay meets the minimum word count requirement to allow for a more comprehensive exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'As a result' are used to link sentences. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt ending significantly disrupts the overall coherence of the final section. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring a complete, well-structured conclusion would help achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'GDP', 'unemployment rate', and 'imported goods'. However, there is a recurring error with the word 'traffics', which is used incorrectly to mean 'tariffs' or 'taxes'. The range is somewhat limited, and the repetition of basic phrases like 'local goods' and 'local businesses' suggests a need for more varied synonyms to demonstrate a wider lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles (e.g., 'the GDP of country') and word choice (e.g., 'traffics' instead of 'tariffs'). Subject-verb agreement and pluralization are also inconsistent. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering article usage and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy.
