Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowdays, some people prefer to buy products that are made in their local area instead of imported products. This essay will discuss the reasons for this trend and argue that it is a positive development.
On the one hand there are several reasons why consumers choose local goods. Firstly, local products are often fresher and better quality. For example, local fruits and vegetables are harvested recently, so they taste better than imported food which comes after many days. Secondly, people wants to support local economy. When they buy from local shops the money is going to stay in their community by which it can helps create job. Another reason is pollution as for imported food we need trucks and aeroplane to deliver the fruits and vegetables to other countries which burns a lot of fuel which causes air pollution and at same time they use chemicals to keep food fresh it is also not good for our health.
On the other hand imported goods has a lot of variety which cannot be provided by local area as some of the vegetables grow in different climates. However, sometime local goods are more expensive than imported one as their are many countries like India and China they produce goods in large factories with low labour cost. So the products are cheap for consumers. For example, mobile phones, laptops and clothes from Asia are more affordable than locally made products. Finally, imposing allows people to access better quality and advanced technology from other countries. For example Japan is famous for cars and technology and Switzerland is famous for watches. By importing people can buy the best quality products from the world.
In conclusion, people buy local goods because they are fresh, support local community and are environmentally friendly. I believe this is a positive trend because it helps local businesses, health and the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt by identifying reasons for the trend and clearly stating your position that it is a positive development. Your ideas are relevant, such as the environmental impact and economic benefits. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention the environmental impact of transportation, you could have expanded on the concept of 'food miles' to provide a more sophisticated argument. The second paragraph discusses imported goods, which is a relevant counter-argument, but ensure that your main position remains the focus throughout the essay. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'On the one hand', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt, and some cohesive devices are used in a repetitive or mechanical way. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be better connected to improve the flow of your arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'harvested', 'community', 'environmentally friendly', and 'affordable'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'imposing allows people' (likely meaning 'importing') and 'imported goods has' (subject-verb agreement). While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition of basic words like 'good' or 'products'. Your spelling is generally accurate, and the errors present do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people wants', 'imported goods has') and pluralization (e.g., 'imported one', 'trucks and aeroplane'). There are also some issues with article usage and sentence fragments. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To achieve a higher score, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and try to vary your sentence structure with more complex clauses.
