Student answer (Band 6.5)
More and more shoppers want to shop the products which are manufactured locally, instead of goods from abroad. According to me, this practise has more pros than cons. The causes and the advantages for this tend will be discussed further in the essay with reasonable illustrations.
Scrutinizing the causes, the foremost one is that the local businesses get support and open the doors for employment opportunities in the communities. To explain this, when people buy products from local vendors, the economy of the region goes up and stays within the local economy. To add to this, more number of people get jobs within the community, that way they are not required to travel long hours for work. Another reason is that the locally produced goods are cheaper as they are not subject to import duties, or any additional charges. To elaborate this, imported products are often expensive and to purchase these products is not a piece of cake for everybody. On top of that, government ch

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under-length at 166 words, failing to meet the 250-word minimum requirement. This severely impacts the development of ideas. While the essay introduces the topic and identifies reasons for the trend, the discussion is cut off abruptly mid-sentence at the end. Because the response is incomplete, it cannot fully address all parts of the task, particularly the evaluation of whether the trend is positive or negative. To improve, you must ensure you complete the essay structure and provide sufficient depth for each point raised to meet the word count requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'To explain this', 'To add to this', and 'Another reason is'. These are functional but somewhat mechanical. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt ending prevents a proper conclusion, which disrupts the overall logical flow. The progression of ideas is clear in the initial paragraphs, but the lack of a final section leaves the argument unresolved. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your essay has a clear, complete structure including a conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with phrases like 'employment opportunities', 'import duties', and 'local vendors'. However, there are some informal or imprecise choices, such as 'According to me' (better: 'In my opinion') and 'not a piece of cake' (which is an idiom that is slightly too informal for an academic essay). The range is somewhat limited, and the abrupt ending prevents the use of more sophisticated or varied vocabulary that might have appeared in a full-length response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some minor errors, such as 'more number of people' (should be 'a greater number of people') and 'this practise' (should be 'this practice' as a noun). Punctuation is generally correct, but the sentence structure is somewhat repetitive. The grammar is usually accurate enough to convey meaning without difficulty, but the range of structures is limited. Focusing on more varied sentence patterns and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help improve your score.
