Student answer (Band 7.0)

In the era of globalisation, our big planet earth shrink to a small global village which creates opportunities to all businesses to spread worldwide. However, a few consumers are still choosing the local goods and produced over the imported goods. There are several reasons behind this scenario, and I believe that this trend has more benefits, which can overwiegh its detrimental impacts.

The first and foremost reason is that it boost local economy. Undoubtledy, imported goods are more lucrative, well designed, and available in wholesome quantity, but the local goods are made with local material, and follows the tradition and cultural identity, so people like to wear local made goods and support each other to grow local community. In addition, it is also important in some places to wear local homemade products to illustarte your identity. For example, a few rural village of india still buying or selling goods in old fashion, if one person is farmer he will supply food, crops and other fullfil another needs, so as a result they help each other and rarely buy imported items.

The prime benefit of this trend is fresh and local produced. The imported food usually not fresh because it is imported from other nation or city, in contrast the local food is always fresh, the farmers only cultivate the crops or food when there is demand. As a result people eat healthy and fresh food. To add to it, the imported food always contains significant numbers of pesticides to increase the production which cause health related issues after long term use, in contrast, local farmer used organic method for agriculture which contains no harmful chemicals and this type of food always healthy and nutrious. Moreover, local good describe the identity and tradition of the place so people prefer local clothes over the imported goods.

However, there are some demerits as well. Firstly, consumers who always choose local goods, could not familiar with other culture and tradition due to lack of awareness about imported goods, and produced. Secondly, some times imported goods are cheaper than local items because they are manufactured in the large quantity which reduced the cost of production. Thus, consumers spend extra on local items rather than buying imported items.

In conclusion, undoubtedly the imported goods is essential for day to day life, or to meet gloabl standards, but I believe, the local produced is the best for local people, although this trend has some drawbacks, but the advantages are way better than demerits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing reasons for the trend and a clear opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as economic support and health benefits. However, the development is somewhat uneven; while the points about health and economy are clear, the explanation regarding 'cultural identity' and the counter-arguments could be more deeply explored. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarises the writer's stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that examples are more specific and fully integrated into the argument rather than just mentioned.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organised into paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition', 'For example', and 'However', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons, the benefits, and the drawbacks. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'globalisation', 'detrimental', and 'cultivate'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'wholesome quantity' (likely meaning 'large quantities'), 'local produced' (should be 'locally produced'), and 'illustarte your identity'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited. Focusing on precise word choice and common collocations would help elevate the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('local farmer used', 'imported goods is essential'), article misuse, and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some errors with comma usage. Despite these errors, the meaning is rarely obscured, and the reader can follow the argument without difficulty. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistency in verb forms.
