Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, there is tough competition between imported goods and local products. However, some customers mostly choose to buy goods that are made in their surrounding area instead of products from other countries. There are some reasons behind this statement. I believe this is a positive trend.
Certainly, there are a plethora of reasons why some consumers are increasingly choosing to buy local products. The predominant one among them is that it is affordable for them. In other words, imported goods come from other countries. Importers have to pay various types of charges, such as shipping charges, packaging charges, taxes, and so on, to import the food. As a result, it is becoming very costly for customers to buy. For example, people have to pay less price for vegetables at Walmart then Indian Stores for vegetables because Walmart sells local vegetables and Indian stores import vegetables from India. Another reason worth mentioning is that when people buy local products, they get good quality from the local market. To elaborate, when products are coming from other nations, it will take a longer time to reach that place. Because of this, sometimes the items are of poor quality, which is not good for individuals' health. Thus, when people buy products from local areas, they get good things.
Some human beings prefer to buy local products, which has a positive impact on the local people. Some local people have fewer chances to earn money. They take food and goods from nearby areas. When consumers buy goods from their surrounding areas, they can earn some amount of money, which is helpful for local people.
In conclusion, consumers are likely to choose to buy products from local areas because of affordable prices and better quality. I believe that this trend has a positive effect on local people to earn their bread and butter.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt: it identifies reasons for the trend (affordability and quality) and clearly states a position that it is a positive trend. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the example comparing Walmart and Indian stores. However, the development of the 'positive trend' argument in the third paragraph is somewhat repetitive and could be more sophisticated. While the main points are clear, the explanation of the economic benefits to local people lacks depth and specific detail, which prevents it from reaching the highest band. Overall, the task is fulfilled adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In other words', 'For example', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, particularly the start of the paragraphs. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better connect the reasons for the trend with the evaluation of its impact. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the overall coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly. You use some good phrases like 'plethora of reasons' and 'earn their bread and butter'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler terms like 'good things' or 'good quality'. There are also minor collocation issues, such as 'pay less price' (should be 'pay a lower price') and 'take food and goods' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to economics and consumer behavior.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as 'when products are coming from other nations, it will take a longer time' (tense inconsistency) and 'Walmart then Indian Stores' (should be 'than'). Punctuation is generally correct, but the sentence variety could be improved by using more diverse subordinating conjunctions and relative clauses. The errors present do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more consistent control over complex structures.
