Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, which severely limits the development of ideas. Furthermore, the content is entirely off-topic. The prompt asks about the reasons for buying local goods and whether this is a positive or negative trend, but the essay discusses government spending on the environment versus healthcare. Because the response fails to address the task prompt entirely and is incomplete, it cannot be awarded a passing score for task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'whereas', the lack of a full structure makes it difficult to assess the logical progression of ideas. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt termination of the text prevents a coherent conclusion or a fully developed argument. The referencing is sometimes unclear due to the fragmented nature of the sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors in word formation and collocation. For example, 'allocating their funds in conservating' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'allocating funds to conserve'. Similarly, 'revamping healthcare sector' lacks an article, and 'saving the atmosphere' is an imprecise collocation for environmental protection. While the student attempts some academic vocabulary, the errors are frequent and the range is insufficient to convey complex ideas effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the short text. Examples include 'It is often argue' (should be 'argued'), 'higher authority ought utilize' (missing 'to'), and 'if pollution level will alleviate' (incorrect conditional structure). The sentence structures are basic and often contain errors that impede clarity. The lack of control over verb forms and prepositions is a recurring issue that prevents the text from reaching a higher band score.
