Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks about the reasons for consumers choosing local goods and whether this is a positive or negative trend. However, the essay discusses government spending on the environment versus healthcare. Because the response fails to address the task prompt entirely, it cannot be assessed for task development. Additionally, the response is 246 words, failing the 250-word minimum requirement. While the structure follows an essay format, the content is irrelevant to the specific question asked, which significantly impacts the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs with clear introductory and concluding sections. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to signal the structure. However, because the content does not relate to the prompt, the logical progression of ideas is disconnected from the task requirements. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear attempt to manage the flow of the argument, even though the argument itself is misplaced.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, though it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'revamping healthcare sector' (should be 'the healthcare sector'), 'Asthame problem' (spelling error), and 'natural habitants' (should be 'habitats'). While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary related to the environment and health, the misuse of these terms and the overall limited range prevent a higher score. Communication is generally clear despite these errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'It is often argue' (should be 'argued'), 'governments should allocating' (should be 'allocate'), 'if pollution level will alleviate' (should be 'if pollution levels are alleviated'), and 'development in healthcare services are' (should be 'is'). These errors are frequent and sometimes impede the flow of the text. The control of verb tenses and subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, which limits the score in this criterion.
