Student answer (Band 6.5)

Consumers preferring locally produced goods on top of imported goods became a sparking debate in the recent times. Some people think positive trend while others think it is negative. This depends on the mindset and circumstances we live in.In this essay I will provide all the relevant information regarding the latest trends and will provide a conclusion.

In this rapidly growing urban world, people rather than running behind readymade food to balance the time, choosing to live healthy. This will not only make them fit and healthy but also helps them to stay safe from different health conditions. For example from a given report in 2024, statistics people from warangal reported as most healthiest when compared to other cities in telangana state. They chose to grow their own food rather than importing from outside.

Importing goods has many benefits as follows. When we import the goods this consumes fuel and pollutes the air by releasing different gases. This will not only benefit the health but also reduces the carbon footprint which can help to repair the environment. This idea of reducing imports will create the job opportunities to the local people and can also help in growth of economy. For example In 2022 a village in

Nizamabad district has recorded the highest economy than the city itself of the new opportunities

Hence I prefer this as a positive trend to see a change which is beneficial for people in different possible ways.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend. However, the development is limited. The essay is under the 250-word minimum, which restricts the depth of the arguments. While the reasons (health and environmental benefits) are relevant, they are not fully expanded. The position is clear, but the supporting examples, such as the reference to 'a village in Nizamabad', are vague and lack sufficient detail to be fully convincing. To improve, you should aim to expand your points with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the minimum word count to allow for a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is somewhat disjointed. The introduction is a bit repetitive, and the transition between the health benefits and the environmental/economic benefits is abrupt. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'For example', 'Hence'), they are sometimes used mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the transition into the second paragraph. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects logically to the previous one, creating a smoother progression of ideas throughout the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are some awkward phrasings, such as 'sparking debate in the recent times' and 'running behind readymade food'. The use of vocabulary is functional but does not demonstrate a wide range of less common items or sophisticated collocations. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to economics and environmental issues, and pay closer attention to natural word combinations. For instance, instead of 'running behind', use 'relying on' or 'prioritising'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect clarity. Examples include 'people from warangal reported as most healthiest' (should be 'the healthiest') and 'this consumes fuel and pollutes the air' (the subject 'this' is ambiguous). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas and periods. While communication is not significantly impeded, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent sentence structure to improve accuracy.
