Student answer (Band 6.5)

Globally a change has been seen in choosing daily items. People prefer to buy locally grown goods, rather than imported one. I believe, this is great change in a society, making positive impacts on individuals and societies.

People are considering it a sense of responsibility to support local growth and somehow becoming part of economic well being. Producing goods locally is affecting overall economy of a country. More people invest in the agriculture and hence earn money out of it. Countries do not have to depend on other countries as a result can make their pricing standards according to their choice. Individuals do not needs to pay huge taxes on their daily needs.

It is also helping individuals in making their personal preferences more clear. Consumers prefer to have their hometown smell out of goods, they are having. They tend to have produce one they know better how it grown. For example, they better know in which kind of soil is that thing produce and what kind of water supply is given to that product.

Another reason, why people are increasing to buy goods from their local region is expiry date. Imported thing could have less days in expiry compared to one grown locally. Nowadays, even fast food transports take time to reach destination, may be because of a chain of suppliers in between, its hard to protect food from allergens and bacteria. As a result, food life decrease on a huge margin.

Although, at some points, countries have to import some goods, and consumer left with no choice other than buying it. We should try to increase local market. I am standing with people who are preferring local area produced, rather than relaying on imported one.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive trend. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the economic and quality-related reasons are mentioned, the explanation of 'hometown smell' is vague and lacks clarity. The argument regarding expiry dates is relevant but could be more effectively linked to the broader concept of sustainability or food security. Overall, the response covers the requirements, but the depth of analysis is limited, which prevents it from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the reasons and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'Another reason, why people are increasing to buy goods'. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, for instance, 'the one they know better how it grown'. While the structure is coherent, the flow between sentences could be improved with more sophisticated linking words to ensure a smoother reading experience.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'economic well being' and 'sustainability' (implied). However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'hometown smell', 'fast food transports', and 'food life decrease on a huge margin'. These errors occasionally make the text sound unnatural, though they do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on learning collocations and more precise terminology for economic and environmental topics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the agriculture', 'the overall economy'), verb forms ('how it grown'), and subject-verb agreement. Some sentences are slightly fragmented or awkward, such as 'Imported thing could have less days in expiry'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over more complex structures. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammar and proofreading for small errors would significantly improve the score.
