Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend. However, the development of ideas is limited. The reasoning regarding health concerns and economic support is clear but lacks depth and nuance. The example provided (Reliance) is somewhat confusingly explained, and the connection between the pandemic and 'Chinese things' is a generalization that lacks factual support, which weakens the argument. To improve, you should focus on expanding your points with more logical explanations and clearer, more relevant examples that directly support your position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is often interrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are frequently missing or repetitive (e.g., 'apart from this', 'first and foremost'). The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of the argument. To achieve a higher score, you should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence flows naturally into the next, creating a more cohesive structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, with frequent errors in word choice and spelling (e.g., 'flue' instead of 'flu', 'chines' instead of 'Chinese', 'lager' instead of 'larger', 'ther' instead of 'their'). There is a reliance on basic vocabulary, and the lack of precision in word usage occasionally hinders the clarity of your message. To improve, you should focus on learning collocations and expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to economics and consumer behavior, while also paying closer attention to spelling accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the readability of the text. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'local residents are mostly prefer'), article usage, and sentence structure. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, these are often poorly constructed and contain errors that can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically verb forms and word order, before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for common errors like 'there/their' and basic punctuation is also essential.
