Student answer (Band 6.0)

Increasingly, customers have been choosing the local products to buy instead of imported products, which I think is a positive approach and has the substantial positive outcomes for community. This essay will elucidate why this trend is positive and has advantages for consumers using relevant examples.

Primarily, those products which manufactured in the local areas are quite less expensive than overseas products; as a consequence, those goods would be affordable for people, eventually satisfying their needs. Moreover, taxes are the another burden which people have to pay when they purchase imported items; on the other side, there will be less taxes on local produced items, which can easily attract public to buy them. For instance, the Indian people choose to buy any item from their nearby local store instead of buying any imported good, as this approach does not only enhance local retailers' growth but also saves their money.

Secondly, although items which manufactured in the different nations are good in quality, and if people buy those goods, it would be detrimental for their own local businesses, eventually stagnating their growth. Shopping at the local shops is a pragmatic choice, as it does not encourage local owners to expand their business but also ameliorates the overall nation's growth. For example, Canadian Government motivates their public to purchase their local items instead of imported item, eventually encouraging their community enhance their image.

To conclude, there is a positive trend of avoiding overseas items by choosing their local products among people, which I believe is imperative for overall country's growth. Notwithstanding the benefits of non-local items, it stagnates local market's progress.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding taxes is not entirely accurate or well-explained, as local goods are often subject to the same tax structures as imports. The examples provided, such as the mention of the Indian and Canadian governments, are a bit generic and could be more specific to demonstrate a deeper understanding. To reach a higher band, ensure that arguments are supported with more logical reasoning and nuanced examples that clearly link to the economic or social benefits mentioned.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Primarily', 'Moreover', 'Secondly', and 'To conclude' helps the reader follow the argument. However, there are some instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'eventually' to connect ideas. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between local retailers and personal savings could be smoother. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. You use some good collocations like 'pragmatic choice' and 'ameliorates the overall nation's growth'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'quite less expensive' (should be 'significantly cheaper') and 'the another burden' (should be 'another burden'). There is also some repetition of basic vocabulary like 'goods', 'items', and 'products'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and avoid awkward phrasing by focusing on natural collocations rather than just using complex-sounding words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the Indian people', 'the Canadian Government') and verb forms ('those products which manufactured' should be 'those products which are manufactured'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
