Student answer (Band 7.0)
In recent years, many consumers have started choosing locally produced goods instead of imported products. This change is mainly driven by the concerns about quality, environmental protection, and support for local businesses. Overall, i believe this is a positive trend because it benefits both the economy and society.
One major reason for this shift is that local products are often fresher and of better quality. For example, locally grown vegetables and fruits usually reach customers more quickly than imported ones, making them healthier and more appealing. In addition, many people are becoming more environmentally conscious. Imported goods often travel long distances, creating higher carbon emissions due to transportation. By purchasing local products, consumers can help reduce pollution and contribute to environmental sustainability.
Another reason is the growing desire to support local businesses and workers. When people buy products made in their own communities, they help create jobs and strengthen the local economy. Small businesses, farmers, and local manufacturers benefit directly from increased sales, which can improve the overall standard of living in the area.
I believe this is a positive trend for several reasons. Firstly, it encourages economic growth by keeping money within the local community. Secondly, it promotes sustainable consumption by reducing transportation and packaging waste. Finally, consumers often receive better customer service and can easily verify the quality and origin of locally produced goods. Although imported products may offer greater variety or lower prices in some cases, the long term advantages of supporting local industries are more significant.
In conclusion, people are increasingly buying locally produced goods because they value quality, environmental protection and the opportunity to support local businesses. In my opinion, this is a positive development as it strengthens the economy, protects the environment and benefits both producers and consumers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt. You clearly identify the reasons for the shift toward local goods—quality, environmental concerns, and economic support—and provide a clear position that this is a positive trend. Each point is logically extended with relevant examples, such as the freshness of local produce and the reduction of carbon emissions. The development is balanced, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes your main arguments. To reach a higher band, you could further explore the counter-argument regarding imported goods to provide a more nuanced analysis of the 'positive' aspect.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is well-organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the reasons for the trend and your opinion is smooth. You use a variety of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'In addition', 'Another reason', and 'Firstly/Secondly/Finally', which guide the reader through your argument. The paragraphing is logical and contributes to the overall clarity of the response. The structure is consistent and easy to follow throughout the entire piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for the task, such as 'environmental sustainability', 'locally produced', and 'standard of living'. The language is natural and precise, allowing you to convey your ideas clearly. While the vocabulary is accurate and functional, it lacks some of the more sophisticated or idiomatic collocations that would characterize a Band 8 or 9 response. However, there are no significant errors in word choice, and the vocabulary is more than sufficient to communicate your points effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Your control of grammar is strong, with most sentences being error-free. You use complex structures, such as conditional clauses and participial phrases, with good accuracy. Punctuation is generally correct, though there is a minor error in the introduction where 'i' should be capitalized. These are rare, non-systematic slips that do not impede communication. The overall grammatical control is consistent and supports the clarity of your arguments well.
