Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely argued that, The trend of buying locally produced goods is raising among the society and affecting the demand of international products negatively. Undoubtedly, Consumers are free to choose from the wide range of products available in the market. However, There could be several reasons which will affect their decision. This essay will be discussing the reasons and the impact of preferring local produced goods over other on the society.

To begin with reasons, price and demand has an inverse relation which is also called as Law of demand. Which means the higher the price results to lower the demand of any product or vice versa. Imported products are usually expensive due to import duty, transportation and higher taxation. This leads to affect the demand of the produced good. For instance - If the price of coffee increases, it's demand automatically decreases because of the inverse relation between both. So the people start preferring buy tea over coffee to save money. Moreover, campaigns related to support local businesses also plays crucial role in this scenario. These campaigns will make them people aware about how buying local origin products can help the country to grow and improve the economy itself.

Moving towards the trend, This could have both positive and negative impact at the same time. However, benefits of this trend overweight it's drawbacks. Buying local made products will keep the rotation of money inside the country and leads to improve the economy of the country. Furthermore, less taxation and transportation costs will help the people to save money and fulfill their need while spending less money and save more. Whereas, less import could affect the relation between different countries because it will affect the other country's financial condition negatively.

In conclusion, spending money on home-origin products could have significant impact to raise the living standards of the nation and help improving the financial conditions of the country because the taxes paid on the product and income from the goods remains in the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of import duties and economic benefits. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The explanation of the 'Law of demand' is a bit tangential and not fully integrated into the context of local versus imported goods. While a position is clear, the discussion of the negative impacts of the trend is brief compared to the positive aspects. To reach a higher band, ensure that each reason is fully explored with more specific, real-world examples rather than general economic theory.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion'. However, there are instances of mechanical or slightly awkward usage, such as 'Moving towards the trend' and 'Which means the higher the price results to lower the demand'. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack smooth transitions between clauses. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would enhance the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'import duty', 'taxation', and 'living standards'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'raising among the society' (should be 'rising in society') and 'local produced goods' (should be 'locally produced goods'). The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise and sophisticated vocabulary would be required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with articles, subject-verb agreement, and sentence fragments. For example, 'The trend... is raising' and 'Which means the higher the price results to lower the demand' are grammatically incorrect. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary capitalization after commas in the introduction. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors would be beneficial.
