Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people prefer to buy goods produced in their own country rather than imported goods. There can be numerous reasons in terms of support local economy and environmental concerns. I believe it is largely a positive trend as it provides more job opportunities as well as reduce environmental problems.

First and foremost, nowadays most of the people are educated. They know the positive consequences of buying products from the home country. So, they indirectly want to help the society in creating more jobs opportunities by buying indigenous products. Moreover, individuals are acquainted with the environmental issues that are caused due the traffic on the roads. Due to this reason, they prefer local products to imported products .For instance, if they demands products from other countries it involves high transportation which leads to environmental problems.

Furthermore, in this technological world people are significantly concerned about their health. They love to prefer fresh food produced in their own country. Every person has easy access to knowledge due to their handy devices. Besides this, many of them want to preserve their local traditions and support products that represent their culture. For example, most of the Indians prefer to buy Indian food whether they are eating in restaurants.

To conclude, I assert that it is surely a positive development. This trend helps economy to flourish as well as it also helps people to connect with their own culture. Apart from this it also helps to reduce environmental problems in the long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend. However, the essay falls slightly short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which impacts the overall development of ideas. While the reasons provided—economic support, environmental concerns, and health—are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped. The arguments lack depth and specific supporting evidence, relying on general statements. For instance, the mention of 'Indians' is a good start, but it needs more elaboration to fully support the point. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more detailed explanations and examples to ensure the response is fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the connection between ideas could be tighter. Overall, the structure is functional and supports the development of your argument, though it lacks the sophisticated flow required for higher bands.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on common terms like 'good', 'people', and 'products'. While you attempt some topic-specific vocabulary such as 'indigenous', 'flourish', and 'technological world', there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'support local economy' (should be 'supporting the local economy') and 'they demands products' (should be 'they demand'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to express your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'due the traffic' (missing 'to'), 'it involves high transportation' (should be 'high transportation costs'), and 'as well as it also helps' (redundant). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are spacing issues before some punctuation marks. To achieve a higher score, you need to increase the frequency of error-free sentences and ensure better control over complex grammatical structures, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement and preposition usage.
