Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive trend. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which significantly impacts the depth of the argument. While the position is clear, the supporting points—such as economic growth and product freshness—are stated rather than fully explored or exemplified with sufficient detail. To improve, you should expand on your arguments with more specific explanations and ensure you meet the minimum word count to allow for a more comprehensive discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'to commence with, the is predominant reason is'. Some transitions feel forced or repetitive, and the logical progression between sentences is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing. While the overall arrangement is coherent, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the reliance on simple structures make the flow feel somewhat disjointed. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas will help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'small complains' (likely meaning 'companies') and 'daily biases' (likely meaning 'daily basis'). These errors occasionally impede clarity. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with collocations. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to economics and consumer behaviour, and pay closer attention to word forms and spelling to ensure your writing is more precise and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include missing articles ('the is predominant reason'), incorrect verb forms ('purchasing products... is increased'), and punctuation errors. These errors are noticeable and sometimes make the text difficult to follow. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of control over basic grammar and sentence structure limits the score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and proofreading to eliminate these persistent errors.
