Student answer (Band 6.5)
Many people nowadays prepare to purchase local goods instead of imported products. This shift in consumer behaviour is main driven due to product quality, environmental protection and support for local economy. In my opinion this is a positive trend because it benefits both communities and environment.
One of the main reasons people choose local products is they often trust their quality and freshness. For example, Locally grown fruit and vegetables usually reach consumers more fast than imported ones. Another important reason is desire to motivate local businesses. By purchasing from local vendors, consumers help create jobs and support to strengthen the economy.
I believe this is a positive development for several reasons. Firstly it reduces the need for long distance transportation which lowers carbon emissions and protect the environment. This can lead to increase in employment opportunities and better living standards. For instance, many farmers markets have became popular because they allow consumers to buy fresh produce directly from local farmers whir ensuring that farmers receive fair prices.
However, imported goods still have an important role because they provide products that may not be available locally and offer consumer a vide variety of choices. Nevertheless, when suitable local alternatives are available, choosing them generally brings greater social, economic, and environmental benefits.
In conclusion, people are increasing purchasing locally produced goods because they provide quality, freshness and opportunity to support local businesses. Overall, I believe this is a positive trend as it promotes sustainable development, improves economy and reduces environmental damage.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend (quality, economy, environment) and clearly stating a position that it is a positive development. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, though some points, such as the economic impact, could be further extended with more specific detail. The structure is logical, and the position is maintained throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully developed with more nuanced analysis rather than just listing benefits.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the reasons from the evaluation of the trend. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there is occasional awkwardness in sentence linking, such as 'This can lead to increase in employment'. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific language like 'sustainable development', 'carbon emissions', and 'local vendors'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'main driven due to' (should be 'mainly driven by') and 'reach consumers more fast' (should be 'reach consumers faster'). The range is adequate for the task, but more sophisticated synonyms and precise collocations would be needed for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the environment', 'the economy'), subject-verb agreement issues ('farmers markets have became'), and minor word form errors ('protect' instead of 'protects'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication or cause confusion for the reader. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic articles and verb tense consistency, and aim for more complex, error-free sentence constructions.
