Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the argument regarding pollution is mentioned but lacks specific detail or depth. The position is clear, but the supporting points could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The essay covers all requirements, but the analysis remains at a surface level throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' are used to signal the structure. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence '...complete their tasks which they want.' The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is frequent repetition of basic words like 'goods', 'things', and 'local'. Some word choices are awkward, such as 'save atmosphere' instead of 'protect the environment' or 'away from health problems' instead of 'avoid health issues'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there are several instances of incorrect collocations that prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('support local economy'), incorrect word forms ('employement opportunities could be increase'), and punctuation errors. Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are also inconsistent. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and suggest a lack of control over more complex grammatical structures.
