Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this fast pacing world, Production of goods plays a crucial role. Some consumers tends to choose it from familiar area or which are nearby to them but other prefer it from outside. This essay will highlight some of the reasons, which includes positive as well as negative things. I would love to agree with the pros side of this thought.

The first and fore most reason is transportation. The products need to transport if they choose to get it from other parts of the world. However, they tend to obtain it from local area, they do not have any problem with transportation. Moreover, it is easier for them to contact someone as most of them are knowing each other. By doing that, consumers not only easily get in touch with them but also are able to get some discount. The second most important reason is that people are able to have some fresh products as they are likely to have a healthy and good quality products.

There are some pros and cons in each and every kind of things. But particularly in this field, I strongly believe that it is a positive trend that some members of society are able to follow this and it is very essential to have some knowledge about importing from local area. Everyone is not only take advantage from it but also able to follow this increasing trend.

To sum up, I believe that Some folks are doing their great work in having all type of product from nearby area rather than different parts of the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive or negative trend. However, the development of ideas is quite limited. For instance, the explanation regarding transportation is repetitive and lacks depth, and the second reason regarding 'fresh products' is mentioned but not fully explored with specific examples. The position is clear, but the arguments remain superficial, lacking the necessary extension required for a higher band. To improve, you should provide concrete examples, such as the environmental impact of reduced food miles or the economic support for local farmers, to better support your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'The first and fore most reason' and 'There are some pros and cons in each and every kind of things.' The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the third paragraph, where the transition to the opinion is abrupt. While the essay is coherent overall, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of the sentence structure hinder the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. You rely on basic phrasing like 'good quality products' and 'doing their great work.' There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'familiar area' instead of 'local area' or 'importing from local area' (which is logically contradictory). To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to economics and consumer habits, such as 'sustainability,' 'carbon footprint,' or 'local economy,' and avoid repetitive, simplistic descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Some consumers tends to choose,' 'Everyone is not only take advantage'), incorrect word forms ('fast pacing world'), and awkward phrasing ('most of them are knowing each other'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a lack of control over more complex structures. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
