Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and whether this is a positive or negative trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the reasons provided—environmental friendliness and affordability—are mentioned but not fully explored or supported with specific examples. The argument that local products are 'often cheaper' is a generalization that could be challenged, and the essay would benefit from more concrete illustrations. While the position is clear throughout, the lack of depth in the supporting arguments limits the score. To improve, ensure each reason is followed by a clear explanation or a real-world example to demonstrate a more thorough understanding of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' helps guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the government's role and the subsequent point about economic independence could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure follows a standard essay format, which aids readability. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the logical progression between ideas is more seamless.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'indigenous products' and 'indispensable role', which are used correctly. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and collocation errors, such as 'cater their demands' (should be 'cater to their demands') and 'increasingly choosing by consumers' (should be 'increasingly chosen by consumers'). The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, 'indigenous products are increasingly choosing by consumers' contains a passive voice error, and 'presenting that why it is' is grammatically incorrect. There are also minor punctuation and article usage issues. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, the writer should focus on mastering passive voice constructions and ensuring subject-verb agreement, as well as refining the use of complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
