Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays consumers are increasingly choosing goods that are produced locally, rather than ibuying mported goods. The reason behind this trend is convenience and cost effecieny. I believe this is a positive development, as it boost economy and confidence of local brands.

To begin with, First aspect behind this phenomenon is convenience, buying local products is better as it saves time and shipping costs such as freight charges and taxes. Also, Its easy to return and test. For example, buying a t-shirt, One can go to the local market, check fit quickly in a change room and can tell right away whether it looks good or no whereas if one buying imported product and need one size bigger and product is out of stock, and get advise from shop owners that for wait 3-5 days or 2 weeks as items come from other countries and take some time. As a result, people find it more useful approach of buying goods locally.

I believe this is a positive development, because when people buying more local produced items, local brands get more recongnition, and businesses get support from local communities , promoted as well. This is not only help them financially, but also boost their confidence. Moreover, when consumers buying more national products that eventually contributes to the economy as well.

In conclusion, consumers increasingly buying goods that are produced locally rather than imported items becauase its efficient and advantageos. I beleive it is a positive development as it boost economy and confidence of local brands.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention convenience and cost-efficiency, the explanation regarding 'shipping costs' and 'taxes' is a bit repetitive. The second body paragraph regarding the positive impact on the economy is clear but could be strengthened with more specific examples or deeper analysis. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended rather than just stated, providing a more comprehensive view of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Also', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the logical progression is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the t-shirt example and the conclusion of that paragraph. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, and the use of punctuation (e.g., missing commas or incorrect sentence boundaries) occasionally disrupts the flow of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'imported goods', 'local brands', and 'economy'. However, there are several spelling errors ('effecieny', 'recongnition', 'advantageos', 'beleive') and some awkward phrasing, such as 'more useful approach of buying'. To improve, focus on using a wider range of vocabulary and ensure that you check your spelling, as these errors prevent the response from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('it boost economy', 'businesses get support... promoted as well'), missing articles, and run-on sentences. For example, 'when people buying more local produced items' should be 'when people buy more locally produced items'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your accuracy.
