Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often debated that some people prefer buying products from the local markets, while others choose to purchase from the imported items. As every coin as two sides purchasing from importing goods has also pros and cons. This essay will discuss reasons behind it before giving my opinion.

Buying from outside products rather than local products is preferred by some people, depends on their likes and dislikes. People mostly like branded items nowadays, and major branded items are imported. Other than that some times people want to purchase something which is not often manufactured in their local areas, people will not have choice to buy it other than imported goods. Moreover, imported items sometimes give good offers, guarantee and warranty. Although buying products from imported items have some positive aspects like people can access to luxurious brands like watches, purses, footwear and clothing and so more, which provide them easy and comfortable use.

However, local products also in these days provide luxury and branded products in affordable rates because public will not have to pay more taxes and also if local products will sell that helps in boosting national economy. In addition, if local products will be selling then it ultimately offers more manpower to work, that helps in employment provision and affects country’s development.

In conclusion, though purchase things from imported items helps people to experience branded products, but it has negative impact outweigh its positive sides by reducing nations growth in aspects of economy and growth, so products should be purchase from imported goods but not more that local manufacturing items.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the trend and an opinion on whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention reasons like branding and economic impact, the arguments lack depth and specific examples. The position is clear, but the conclusion is slightly contradictory, suggesting that products should be purchased from imported sources while simultaneously arguing for the benefits of local manufacturing. To improve, ensure that each paragraph fully explores a single idea with a concrete example or a more detailed explanation to better support your position.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as in the opening sentence where the transition between the topic and the thesis is abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are repetitive in structure, which affects the flow. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother and more logical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'national economy', 'employment provision', and 'manufactured'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'purchase from importing goods' instead of 'purchasing imported goods' and 'provide luxury... in affordable rates' instead of 'at affordable rates'. There is also some repetition of basic words like 'products' and 'items'. Expanding your range to include more precise academic collocations would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with prepositions, articles, and verb forms (e.g., 'if local products will be selling' should be 'if local products are sold'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after periods and incorrect comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of conditional structures will help improve your accuracy.
