Student answer (Band 6.0)

As societies continue to evolve, the question of whether some individuals want to purchase the products that are domestically produce istead of choosing goods produced outside their country has become increasingly contentious. Although both perspectives have their merits, there are some reasons behind this approach.

The top-notch concrete reason behind the view of buying domestically produced goods is the fair price of that specific product. The manufacturers are always aware of the demand of product in their locality. As an outcome, to escalate the sales and earn more profits, they tried to sell at the genuine cost. Evidence of this can be observed in the difference between the prices of locally produced clothes and imported clothes.

Another compelling argument in favour of buying goods that are produced in their local area, rather than imported goods, is the bond of trust between seller and buyer. It acts as a bridge between both of them, which ultimately resulted to puchase products from the well-known person instead of buying from another country's goods. In addition, some individuals have a sense of patriotism, so they want to contribute their money to improve their country's economy.

Beyond these practical considerations, it also has a few cons to society due to denying buying international products as it generates employment opportunities to ample of people who are working in the multi-national companies by selling their products, as well as it also helps to give a variety of goods to choose the best article according to their need and wealth.

In a nutshell, taking all factors into account, it is evident that both perspectives have their pros and cons. I am convinced that consumers should buy things according to their need and their pocket allows them to purchase, rather than checking the " made in" tag, making it a more persuasive perspective.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and an evaluation of the trend. The position is clear, although the conclusion is slightly contradictory, suggesting consumers should ignore the 'made in' tag after having discussed the merits of local products. Ideas are relevant, such as price and trust, but the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument regarding 'patriotism' is mentioned but not fully explored. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by more detailed explanation or concrete examples rather than just stating the idea.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition', 'Beyond these practical considerations', and 'In a nutshell', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'As an outcome' (should be 'As a result') and 'which ultimately resulted to puchase' (grammatically incorrect). The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the link between the final paragraph and the previous arguments could be smoother to ensure a more cohesive overall argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'contentious' and 'compelling argument'. However, there are several instances of awkward collocation and word choice errors, such as 'top-notch concrete reason', 'ample of people', and 'wealth' (when 'budget' or 'purchasing power' was intended). Spelling errors like 'istead' and 'puchase' also occur. To improve, focus on using collocations more naturally and proofreading for basic spelling mistakes, which currently limit the range and precision of the vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('they tried to sell' instead of 'they try to sell') and prepositional errors ('resulted to purchase'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentence structures are slightly clunky, such as 'it also has a few cons to society due to denying buying international products'. Increasing the variety of error-free complex sentences and improving control over verb tenses would significantly enhance the score.
