Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local goods and an evaluation of whether this is a positive or negative trend. The position is clear from the start. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the reasons for local purchasing are explained, the discussion on the negative aspects is less convincing and lacks depth. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of the argument. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a balanced and fully articulated argument, and always complete the final paragraph to provide a sense of closure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The main reason', 'For instance', and 'To sum up', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'due to that consumers are rely on native items'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the abrupt ending of the essay negatively impacts the overall coherence. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that the structure remains consistent throughout the entire piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations. For example, 'highly pruchasing' should be 'increasingly purchasing', and 'wreaks inflation' is an incorrect collocation. There are also spelling errors like 'pruchasing', 'supplyers', and 'negetive'. While the student attempts to use some less common vocabulary like 'multifarious' and 'escalating', the inaccuracies in usage and spelling prevent a higher score. Focusing on accurate word forms and common collocations will significantly improve the clarity and sophistication of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('cost of international goods are escalating', 'prices of that products is decreasing') and article usage ('in UK', 'a positive as well a negative'). There are also issues with pluralisation and verb forms, such as 'every individuals are only prefer'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of basic grammatical rules.
