Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is an undeniable fact that a large number of people are denying to purchase internationally imported products, instead they tend to choose locally manufactured goods. This essay will delve into the reasons of this increasingly popular phenomenon before explaining why I strongly believe it's a positive trend.
In the recent years, consumerism for local goods is considered beneficial for a variety of reasons. Firstly, the national products are considerably cheaper than the imported good. When any comodity is traded, the local government impose taxes on it, eventually increasing its price. What is more, consumers do not have to pay any additional custom duty charges if they purchase from local market.
Another strong factor that cannot be neglected is that even though people have become materialistic and posses unwanted desires of the global village, they clearly understand the value of the local economy.
To exemplify, If they continue to purchase imported products on a large scale, the overall GDP of the country will significantly fall as a result. Ultimately, this will lead to growth of foreign economies whereas the local people who are even contributing will struggle for survival.
Nevertheless, those who advocate to purchase imported goods rather than locally produced ones opine that the quality of a product is supreme to them despite the location of manufacture. Such people generally belong the society of aristocrats who have generational money in their banks and posses international products to showcase their supremacy over the others. Over the time, they have developed international relations and buy their products. Thus, they do not prefer local markets.
In conclusion, I reiterate that although there are some sections that buy imported goods, many people still prefer national products.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether this is a positive trend. However, the development is uneven. While the reasons (price and economic impact) are relevant, the second body paragraph regarding 'aristocrats' is somewhat tangential and does not fully address the 'positive or negative' aspect of the trend in a balanced way. The conclusion is also quite brief and fails to summarize the main points effectively, which limits the depth of the response. To improve, ensure each paragraph directly supports your position and provides a more comprehensive summary in the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'What is more', and 'In conclusion' to link your points. However, the transition between the second and third body paragraphs is slightly abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the final paragraph is underdeveloped, which affects the overall coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'consumerism', 'commodity', and 'materialistic'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'denying to purchase' instead of 'refusing to purchase' or 'choosing not to purchase', and 'posses' (spelling error). The phrase 'society of aristocrats' is also slightly unnatural in this context. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your vocabulary is used accurately to convey your intended meaning without relying on slightly misused academic-sounding terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'In the recent years' (should be 'In recent years'), 'local government impose' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'belong the society' (missing preposition). While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You have attempted some complex structures, but they often contain minor inaccuracies. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage will help improve the accuracy of your writing significantly.
