Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 167 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you identify that there are reasons for the trend and that it is positive, the arguments are severely underdeveloped. You mention 'local business' and 'economy' but do not provide sufficient explanation or examples to fully address the prompt. The conclusion is also extremely brief and lacks a summary of the main points. To improve, you must expand on your arguments with specific examples and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for full task development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'Furthermore', which helps with the overall structure. However, the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the response. Paragraphing is present, but the paragraphs are underdeveloped, particularly the final one. There is some repetition of phrases like 'local area' and 'local business', which makes the flow feel somewhat mechanical. To achieve a higher score, you should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph contains a clear, well-supported main idea that connects logically to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'local' and 'business' (misspelled as 'bussiness'). There are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'purches', 'predominat', 'relistic', 'marchent', and 'devlopment'. These errors, combined with the limited range of vocabulary, make the writing feel basic. To improve, you should focus on learning synonyms for common words and pay closer attention to spelling. Using more precise terminology related to economics or consumer behavior would also help demonstrate a wider range of lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'number of people have chosen' (missing 'a'), 'help to grow local bussiness' (missing subject), and 'local products more fresh' (missing verb). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which limits your ability to express more sophisticated ideas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and incorporating a variety of complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, while ensuring they are grammatically accurate.
