Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the trend and the writer's opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as the quality of imported goods and the economic benefits of local shopping. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about cybercrime is introduced but not fully explained in relation to the local versus imported goods argument. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly explored to reach a higher band. Overall, it meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One of main reasons', 'In addition', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'At the end this new change'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where 'there items' is used instead of 'these items'. While the progression of ideas is generally logical, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor errors in sentence structure and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'purchasing habits', 'economy', and 'advertisements'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'excessively wanted to purchase', 'wrong parcel of people items', and 'take make good of use of people money'. These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a limited range and a lack of precision in more complex expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('buying habit... have changed', 'goods... it have some fault') and article misuse. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and unnecessary commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The writer needs to focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy.
