IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some consumers are increasingly choosing to buy goods that are produced in their local area, rather than imported goods.

What are the reasons for this?

Is this a positive or a negative trend?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 4.5)

It is often argued that learning institutions should use electronic devices such as computers rather than textbooks. Although using computers is beneficial for students as it is more accessible and efficient, I believe it can have a negative impact on teenagers as it can be distracting and providing unnecessary information that students do not require at early stages of their lives.

On the one hand, students can get various benefits by using digital devices because they will easily be able to access all their curriculum in one place. In addition, if these devices will be equipped with updated learning softwares, it can also provide students with instant feedback to improve and work on the lacking skills. For instance, instead of searching and finding the solution to a particular math problem in different books, AI can provide learners with solution to the problem quickly and efficiently, without wasting their precious time.

On the other hand, digital devices are also connected to the internet which can result in unnecessary exposure to unwanted information students might not need. Moreover, teenagers in their learning years can get easily distracted by using computers to play games and watch movies for long hours. Moreover some students can also experience problems due to excessive screen time such as weak eye-sight and wearing prescription glasses, which can to lead to reduced confidence in future.

In conclusion, I believe that excessive screen time and unwanted exposure to the information on internet can be harmful, which can impact students negatively in their learning stage of life.
