Student answer (Band 6.0)
Currently it is common to see that people are changing their preferences from buying imported goods to local goods. There could be multiple reasons behind this trend, such as to support local economy, to provide exposure to local items. I personally feel it is a positive trend because it is not only supporting local market, but also helping people to save money.
The first and foremost reason to buy local items over imported ones could be to support local economy. To explain, nowadays people are way more smarter, so they know just by purchasing the local items they are supporting the local economy. Also, when they buy the local products, somewhere or somehow they are opening doors for employment. This way they are not only supporting local shopkeepers to earn money and pay taxes to the government, but also helping local market to create an employment for local people. So. this is how they support local economy in multiple ways.
The second reason could be to give exposure to local market. To elaborate, nowadays in social media generation people madly follow western culture, so many people buy products or style themselves accordingly how people in western countries do. Therefore, if a small group of people buy the local items, they are actually motivate others to do the same. This way local items may get more exposure if more and more people use it.
I personally feel it is a positive switch rather than counting it as a negative, The first reason could be saving money. As people know how costlier the western or exotic items are, and how much duties and taxes people have to pay to use these items. Thus, if people start using the local items, they may not have to pay additional taxes.
To conclude, yes, the trend has changed from buying imported goods to local items. And as far as I concern it is completely god swift of the trend, as it boosts local market and economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the trend and an opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as supporting the local economy and cost-effectiveness. However, the development is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the argument regarding 'exposure' is slightly unclear and could have been better supported with concrete examples. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting arguments would benefit from more sophisticated analysis to reach a higher band. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed, but the depth of discussion is limited.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The first and foremost reason', 'To elaborate', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'So. this is how they support local economy'. Additionally, there are some issues with referencing and flow, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between social media and local product exposure is a bit disjointed. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'exotic items' and 'duties and taxes'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'people are way more smarter', 'god swift of the trend', and 'counting it as a negative'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision and sophistication of the writing. A wider range of vocabulary would be needed for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('people are way more smarter'), incorrect article usage, and punctuation errors (e.g., 'So. this is how...'). Some sentences are slightly ungrammatical, such as 'they are actually motivate others'. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, although they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended message. To improve, the student should focus on sentence construction and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy.
