Student answer (Band 6.5)
Certain customers prefer to buy products grown in their local region rather than overseas goods. There are several reasons for that, such as freshness and quality, trust, and support for local businesses. This essay will explain the reasons before explaining why I believe that it has a significant positive impact on our overall economic growth.
One of the main reasons is that people prefer fresh foods and know the quality of the food, because buyers know where the products come from and how they are produced. Moreover, consumers prefer to support the growing small businesses, which encourages the producers to produce a large amount of goods, and in this way, it creates job opportunities. Take India as an example, People buy the wheat from their local farmers, which inspires producers to do more hard work to provide better quality.
While buying products from the local market enhances their lives, it has a more positive impact on the Country's overall growth. It helps reduce environmental pollution by reducing transportation use. Additionally, it helps create more job opportunities for others seeking them; these jobs help reduce the unemployment rate and boost a nation's economy. To illustrate, India had a 'Swadeshi Movement' in the past, which was about using cloth made locally or at local markets and avoiding overseas textiles. As a result, the Indian economy was boosted, and it provided job opportunities for unemployed people, especially adults and women.
Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that using local goods is helpful in many ways, such as supporting a country's development and fostering relationships among citizens. I firmly believe that this approach is beneficial because it helps reduce environmental pollution and grow a country's GDP.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and clearly stating a position that it is a positive development. The ideas are relevant, such as freshness, economic support, and environmental benefits. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the link between local shopping and 'environmental pollution' is mentioned but not fully explained or extended. The example of the 'Swadeshi Movement' is a strong, relevant historical reference that adds depth to the argument. To reach a higher band, the student should provide more detailed explanations for each point rather than listing them, ensuring the connection between the reasons and the overall positive impact is more robustly argued.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'To illustrate' are used effectively to link sentences and ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be more precise in places. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better integrate the shift from personal benefits to national economic impact. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the clarity of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'economic growth', 'unemployment rate', and 'environmental pollution'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'fostering relationships' and 'firmly believe', which are used correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing. To improve, the student should aim for more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to express complex ideas more fluently. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors that impede meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear and grammatically sound, though there are occasional minor errors, such as 'the growing small businesses' (the article 'the' is unnecessary here) and 'People buy the wheat' (capitalization error). The use of complex sentences is present, but they are not always handled with full flexibility. The punctuation is generally accurate, supporting the flow of the text. To achieve a higher band, the student should focus on reducing these minor slips and incorporating a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with greater precision.
