Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, Few Customers are increasingly choosing to purchase goods or products that are produced in their local area, instead of buying imported products. Although imported product gives more profit for retailers and government, buying locally will help local farmers and people's health which I belive it is becoming a positive trend.

Imported goods are mostly packaged foods with added preservatives, because while importing the products the company would add more chemicals to keep the food for a long time. Which will cause some health problems for people especially children's and elderly people's. even though retailers getting more sales and government gaining profit by additional tax by imported products it has many drawbacks.

On the other hand, If you buy product which are made locally by the farmers in the area, the products are more fresh and no extra chemicals would be added and it helps farmers to grow and also helps our community. Despite this, there will be no additional taxes to pay, because of this people don't need to spend more to purchase things. through this, the number of people buying things in their surrounding is increasing. For example, A survey is conducted by an UK Government in the hospitals, notably people who are consuming packaged food which are imported are having more health issues than people eating local foods.

In Conclusion, Although buying international products will help government to get tax but it will affect citizens health, therefore buying local product will help people to buy fresh and tax free product, In the same way it will help farmers to grow and build our environment more economically and ecofriendly. so I believe purchasing local product is a positive trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding government tax is slightly contradictory and under-developed, as the essay suggests both that imported goods generate tax and that local goods are 'tax free,' which lacks nuance. The example provided regarding the UK government survey is vague and lacks specific detail to fully support the claim. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and more concrete, realistic examples to support your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the reasons for the trend to the evaluation of its impact. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate. For example, the use of 'Despite this' at the start of the third paragraph does not logically connect to the previous sentence. Additionally, some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. Improving the variety and precision of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this', 'these') is always clear would help improve the flow of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'preservatives,' 'economically,' and 'ecofriendly.' However, there are instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'imported product gives more profit' (should be 'products give') and 'build our environment more economically.' The range is sufficient for the task, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on collocations and ensuring correct word forms (e.g., 'fresh' vs 'freshly') would enhance your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('imported product gives', 'retailers getting'), pluralization ('children's and elderly people's'), and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several sentence fragments (e.g., 'Which will cause some health problems...') and comma splices. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and main verb.
