Student answer (Band 6.0)

Now a days, many customers are selecting products which are produced locally over goods that are imported from other region. In the following paragraphs, we will discuss whether this change is favourable or not as well as causes behind this shift in trend.

To begin with, the main reason behind this is changing dynamics of geo-politics. For example, in early 2025, Canadian buyers refrained themselves from buying products that were manufactured in United States of America in response to trump's 25% tarrifs on Canada. Additionally, many individuals have better understanding of economics and they know that buying local goods boost the growth of local communities and businesses. Moreover, Campaigns and advertisements from government, media and newspapers also play a significant role and have an influence on an individual's buying decision.

This rapid shift has both pros and cons. Looking at the benefits, this trend helps growing country's ecomnomy and making our country more prosperous, which ultimately increases country's GDP and reduces our dependency on foreign goods. on the other hand, this trend works as a hurdle in globalization. For instance, if people in canada starts buying burgers and pizzas from local stores then global brands like dominos and mcdonalds are more likely to run out of business in Canada.

To conclude, it can be said that, consumption of local goods is good to a larger extent when it comes to growth of nation's GDP and wealth, but, the impact on international relations with other countries should also be considered before making purchasing decisions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as geopolitical tensions and economic benefits. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding globalization is introduced but not fully explored, and the example of fast-food chains is a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or nuanced examples. The position is clear throughout, but the overall depth of the analysis is limited, which is characteristic of a Band 6 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and punctuation, such as the inconsistent capitalization of 'canada' and 'united states of america'. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more naturally rather than relying on simple list-like transitions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'geo-politics', 'dynamics', 'prosperous', and 'globalization'. However, there are several spelling errors ('tarrifs', 'ecomnomy') and some awkward phrasing, such as 'refrained themselves from buying'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. To improve, focus on accurate spelling and using collocations more naturally. The range is sufficient for the task, but the errors in word choice and spelling prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('in early 2025', 'growing country's ecomnomy'), subject-verb agreement errors ('if people in canada starts'), and inconsistent capitalization. While these errors do not impede communication, they are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly article usage and pluralization. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring they are error-free would help elevate your score in this criterion.
