Student answer (Band 6.0)

Yes, it is true that in today's society people prefer local good owed and produced in their own area over other goods which are imported from other countries.

There can be several reasons behind selecting such local goods. Products which are manufactured in the local area or country are slightly cheaper than the other imported goods due to reduction in other extra costs which are increased while importing. I want to add up my own experience here regarding this. I often visit stores like, Walmart or Canadian tire to buy groceries. I always notice that the international products, which directly means the products which are imported from other countries, are more costly than the ones generated in our own country. A bottle of oil is expensive when taken from the international aisle, which states "made in India or made in USA," than a bottle of same oil taken which is manufactured in own country or area. Furthermore, I believe that locally generated products, especially in food and health sector, are more safer than the imported ones because local products usually follows the safety guidelines and measures which are promoted by their country. Also, imported products are often expired and shopkeepers sell those products by changing it's date. By using own area's goods, such risks of scams gets reduced.

According to me, this trend is majorly positive because people when people prefer own country's goods, it helps in accelerating countries GDP but it also has some negative impact as if import will be promoted then it will also help in export and our country will also be able to send good to other countries, which will help in great success.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The reasons provided—cost and safety—are relevant, but the argument regarding the trend is underdeveloped and slightly contradictory. For instance, you mention that the trend is 'majorly positive' due to GDP growth, but then immediately pivot to the benefits of importing without clearly concluding your stance. To improve, ensure that your position is maintained consistently throughout the essay and that you provide more balanced, nuanced support for your arguments rather than relying on anecdotal evidence like the Walmart example.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into three paragraphs, which is a logical structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'Also' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas within the final paragraph is somewhat disjointed. The transition between the benefits of local goods and the potential downsides of reduced imports is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'such risks of scams gets reduced,' which lacks a strong antecedent. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows logically into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'local goods' and 'imported goods.' There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'more safer' (which is grammatically incorrect) and 'generated in our own country' (where 'produced' or 'manufactured' would be more natural). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and topic-specific vocabulary related to economics and trade, such as 'domestic production,' 'supply chain,' or 'economic stimulation,' while ensuring you use them in the correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'local products usually follows'), incorrect comparative forms (e.g., 'more safer'), and punctuation errors. The use of articles is also inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically checking for pluralization, article usage, and ensuring that comparative adjectives are formed correctly.
