Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the evaluation of whether it is a positive or negative trend. The ideas are relevant, covering economic benefits, quality, and environmental impact. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the point about 'transportation cost' is mentioned but not fully explained in terms of how it impacts the consumer or the global market. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The response covers all requirements of the task effectively, but the depth of analysis is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the reasons for the trend to the evaluation of its impact. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Additionally', and 'In summary' are used to link sentences and paragraphs. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, such as 'As per the statement' in the introduction, which does not flow naturally. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences, like 'Undoubtedly, that mainly covered by selling it', are syntactically awkward, which slightly disrupts the flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'local economy', 'carbon footprint', and 'employment opportunities'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'eliminating various transported goods' and 'directly accessible things'. Some phrasing is non-idiomatic, for example, 'the local market side, that reduce'. While the range is sufficient to discuss the topic, the lack of precision and occasional misuse of words prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'there are some essential aspects that follows') and article usage. Some sentences are fragmented or lack clarity, such as 'the environmental benefits presented by cutting down transport rate'. Punctuation is generally functional, but the errors in grammar are noticeable and occur throughout the text. These errors do not usually impede communication, but they are frequent enough to limit the score to the 6.0 band.
