Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and expressing a clear opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. For example, the argument regarding 'quality' and 'taste' is asserted without specific examples or elaboration. Furthermore, the response is under the 250-word minimum, which restricts the depth of the discussion. While the position is clear, the lack of sufficient word count and the superficial nature of the supporting points prevent a higher score. To improve, you should expand on your points with concrete examples and ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for full development of your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt at logical progression. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To inaugurate with' and 'in this way they can save'. Some sentences are disjointed, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the transition between the benefits of local goods and the acknowledgement of imported goods is abrupt. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would help the ideas flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'items which are produced in their own nation has get more popularity' and 'they are more cheaper'. The repetition of basic terms like 'goods', 'products', and 'nations' limits the lexical variety. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and synonyms to express your ideas more precisely and naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('items... has get'), incorrect comparative forms ('more cheaper'), and punctuation errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('this is more convenient'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction impede the overall fluency of the writing. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence boundaries will significantly improve your score.
