Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is an increasing shopping trend among few consumers to buy locally produced goods rather than imported ones. In this essay, I will throw lights on primary causes for this trend. Additionally, I will conclude the essay with a reason why I believe this is a positive trend.
Some customers are more inclined towards buying local produce and skipping the imported ones. The main reason is inflation. Let's try to understand this with an example. I came to Canada in the year 2024. If I compare the groceries price now, it has increased by at least by 15% in two years. On the one hand, people were protesting about the inflation and were seeking Government's intervention to control the inflation.
On the other hand, Canadian Government was busy putting all the blames on rise in important tariffs imposed by neighboring countries such as USA. This leads to drift in people's mindset to cut off the imported goods, and buy only the local manufactured goods such as Meat, Veggies, Mushrooms, Cereals etc.
I strongly believe this as a positive trend because it has helped in boosting Canadian economy. This move has encouraged the farmers to amplify their production to meet local demands. More consumption has resulted in more cash flows within the country. There are many farm owners, who jumped to advertise about their farms on social media platforms. For example:- In Edmonton, few strawberries farm owners started promoting their crops on Instagram urging customers to come and pick their berries by themself.
Concluding this essay, the change of habit of buying from local produce is a positive change which is going to bring revolution in consumer's shopping behaviour.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the writer's opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, particularly the link between inflation and the shift toward local goods. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding government tariffs is a bit confusing and lacks clarity in its connection to the overall argument. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The essay covers all requirements, but the depth of analysis is limited, keeping it at a solid mid-level performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. The use of cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Additionally' helps to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between the inflation argument and the government's role could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, which ensures the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'amplify their production' and 'cash flows', which are used correctly. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and minor collocation errors, such as 'throw lights on' (should be 'shed light on') and 'jumped to advertise' (which is slightly informal). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'the groceries price' (should be 'grocery prices'), 'putting all the blames' (should be 'blame'), and 'by themself' (should be 'themselves'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some minor errors. The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents the writing from being considered highly accurate. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and pluralization would improve the score.
