Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays,Consumers prefer to opt for local goods rather than that of foreign products. I think that this initiative would help local businesses and overall growth of the local economy. Imported goods if bought, would relatively increase the other countries economy and global standing. The below following paragraphs would discuss both the positive and negative attributes to this initiative

Firstly, the positive aspect to buying local grown goods or preferring local brands, will directly increase the market value of those businesses, which leads to upliftment of the country's economic as well as social development. Like for instance, my home country, India starting an initiative called Make in India, where buying and manufacturing Swadeshi goods that is home-grown products before anything else. This as helped the Indian goods get a platform to showcase their products nationally and globally.

Secondly, the negative aspect of this would affect globalisation, which stands for one world, one market for all. If consumers buy only home-grown products, then the competition in the global markets would be declined. Collaboration of various countries in different areas would be affected like If United States of America launched its own Artificial Intelligence products like Chips, Data engines etc countries like Taiwan, Singapore would not have a global platform to showcase their products. Hence, it would lead to "Global Market Depreciation".

Though, negative aspect would affect globally but as a nation first and being a responsible citizens of a country, I would prefer focusing on the internal growth of the my home country India, first than that of world markets.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and an evaluation of the trend. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The reasons provided (economic growth, social development) are relevant, but the discussion on the negative aspects is slightly underdeveloped and relies on a somewhat narrow interpretation of 'globalisation'. The position is clear throughout, although the conclusion is a bit abrupt. To improve, ensure that the arguments are balanced more thoroughly and that the examples provided are fully integrated into the analysis rather than just mentioned.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Hence' are used, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. There are minor issues with referencing and sentence-level flow, such as the awkward phrasing in the introduction ('The below following paragraphs'). The logical flow is generally maintained, but the connection between the paragraphs could be smoother to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'upliftment' and 'depreciation', though 'upliftment' is not the most natural choice in this context. Some word choices are slightly imprecise, such as 'that of foreign products' instead of 'those of foreign products'. The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but more precise collocations and a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary would enhance the quality.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'Imported goods if bought, would relatively increase the other countries economy' (missing possessive apostrophes and awkward word order) and 'my home country India starting an initiative' (missing auxiliary verb). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
