Student answer (Band 7.0)
Many customers are opting to shop local products instead of buying foreign products. The driving factors are demand for fresh produce and desire to support local businesses. In my view, it is a favourable development as it is beneficial for both the environment and the economy.
The primary catalyst behind this phenomenon is the rising demand for fresh produce. Since people are becoming more and more heath conscious, they prefer to buy fresh organic produce from local farmers instead of the preserved imported ones. Furthermore, recent changes in global economy has reinforced public desire to strengthen their local economies. As a result they want to support local businesses by purchasing locally produced goods. For instance, recent introduction of global tariffs by the USA government has inspired many Canadians to buy locally produced goods.
In my view, it is definitely a fruitful development because it is environmentally sustainable and economically beneficial. This is because an incline in domestic goods means fewer import of the foreign products, which reduces the emissions from the transportation of imported commodities. In addition, strengthening of local businesses uplifts the nation’s economy by making a country self-reliant. Since to fulfill the growing needs of the public, state provides financial assistance to local farmers and factories. As a result, both regional and national economies flourishes by leaps and bounds. Therefore, this practice not only reduces environmental emissions but also promotes economic growth.
In conclusion, while citizens shop local goods for health benefits and support local businesses, it positively impacts environment and strengthens national economies. Therefore, I believe it is a constructive approach which will make a nation self-sufficient.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying clear reasons for the trend (health consciousness and economic support) and providing a firm position on its positive nature. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. For instance, the link between local consumption and reduced transportation emissions is a strong, logical point. However, the development could be further enhanced by providing more specific, nuanced examples beyond the brief mention of US tariffs. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes the main arguments. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'As a result', and 'In addition' are used effectively to link sentences and ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the evaluation of the trend. The referencing is clear, and the reader is never confused about the writer's intent.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'health conscious', 'environmentally sustainable', and 'self-reliant'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'incline in domestic goods' (should be 'increase') and 'fewer import of the foreign products' (should be 'fewer imports'). While the range is sufficient to convey the message, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. Expanding the use of more precise academic collocations would improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are recurring grammatical errors that slightly affect the flow. For example, 'recent changes in global economy has reinforced' (subject-verb agreement error: 'have reinforced') and 'economies flourishes' (subject-verb agreement error: 'economies flourish'). Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage, such as 'reduces the emissions' and 'impacts environment'. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the errors do not impede communication. A greater variety of error-free complex structures would be needed for a higher band.
