Student answer (Band 6.0)

Buying imported good was a trend until recent years, but it is believed that some consumers recently are purchasing products produce in their local area. I believe that this shift has positively impact the economic status of the society as well as better quality of goods are received to the consumers.

To begin with, there are ample of reasons that supports the trend. Firstly, If buyer by products from local market they would get it for cheaper price as they have to pay lesser tax compare to international good. Apart from this, other reason for lower cost is that one does not have to pay for import fees to the good. Moreover, the quality of the product will not deteriorate as it is always freshly made. For example, if you purchase breads from a local bakery it would be fresh as it is made everyday. On the other hand, if you buy imported breads than there might be a chance of being stale as it took a long time to travel.

This trend has positive impact on society as it would help boosting the economy by expanding the employment rate. If Purchaser would start buying local than the demand for the goods will rise which will result in building new factories for the product and owner will have to hire more people to meet the requirement. For instance, Walmart had to hire 20 new people as their brand called Great Value is higher in trend due to lesser price and better quality.

To sum up, individuals should continue to opt for the in grown brands rather than outsourced for countries development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'cheaper prices' due to lower taxes is a generalisation that may not always be true in reality, and the example provided about Walmart is not entirely relevant to the concept of 'local' goods, as Walmart is a multinational corporation. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced explanations and ensure that your examples directly support your claims rather than relying on potentially inaccurate business scenarios.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Firstly', 'Apart from this', and 'Moreover' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by grammatical errors, such as 'if you buy imported breads than there might be a chance of being stale'. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother if the sentences were connected with more sophisticated linking phrases rather than simple additive connectors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You use basic terms like 'good', 'trend', and 'price' repeatedly. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'in grown brands' (should be 'locally produced' or 'home-grown') and 'outsourced for countries development' (which is unclear). While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of more sophisticated or precise vocabulary prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on learning topic-specific collocations related to economics and consumer behaviour would significantly improve your lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Examples include 'Buying imported good was a trend' (should be 'goods'), 'positively impact' (should be 'positively impacted'), 'there are ample of reasons' (should be 'ample reasons'), and 'If buyer by products' (should be 'If buyers buy'). Subject-verb agreement and pluralisation errors are consistent throughout the text. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors suggests that you need to focus on proofreading your work for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent verb tense usage.
