Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, an increasing number of people choose to purchase items that are produced in their own geographical region, rather than coming from outside areas. There are several reasons behind this trend. I think this can lead to significant positive impact on the local area. I will discuss it in detail in the upcoming paragraphs.

One main reason is about the quality of the product and safety. To explain it, if the product is made up by using materials from the local area, individuals can know about the process and quality. They can feel secure to use it. For instance, near by market is selling vegetables from local farms then it can significantly reduce the safety concerns about the quality and people will feel free to buy it. Additionally, it makes the way of communication and contact very easy and comfortable, if they encounter any product is not in a good condition. For example, if a person bought electric items from local store and it does not work properly. It is very comfortable to contact local sellers rather than dealing with international companies and suffer from lengthy process.

On the another hand, it can also put a positive impact on the region such as economic growth, increase opportunity for business and employment. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend as positive. The ideas are relevant, such as product quality, safety, and economic benefits. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument regarding 'safety' is a bit repetitive, and the economic benefits are mentioned but not fully explored with specific examples or deeper analysis. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your arguments with more detailed explanations or concrete real-world examples rather than just stating the points. The position is clear throughout, but the overall development lacks the depth required for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices like 'One main reason', 'Additionally', and 'On the another hand'. However, the flow is sometimes mechanical, and some transitions are slightly awkward, such as 'On the another hand' (which should be 'On the other hand'). Referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas could be smoother. The conclusion summarizes the main points effectively, but the overall structure relies on simple linking words rather than a more sophisticated range of cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You use basic terms like 'good condition', 'not work properly', and 'things'. While these do not impede communication, they do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'near by market is selling' instead of 'a nearby market sells' and 'put a positive impact' instead of 'have a positive impact'. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to economics, consumer behavior, and sustainability.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that, while they do not prevent understanding, are noticeable. Examples include 'made up by using' (should be 'made using'), 'if they encounter any product is not' (should be 'if they encounter a product that is not'), and 'these factors can shown' (should be 'these factors can show'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the control over complex sentence structures is inconsistent. Increasing the accuracy of verb forms and prepositions will help improve your score in this criterion.
