Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, people prefer to buy the things they need that are grown in their local areas, subsequently, giving less importance to imported goods.
I personally believe that this phenomena holds significant positive impacts in many different ways.
To commence with, this change is driven by many factors, for example, public campaigns, government interference and local communities' efforts to encourage people to support their rural economy. People are recommended to spend and keep money in the local pockets rather then sending over to other territories or countries. For example, when individuals buy groceries or other household stuff that is made or produced in their own city region, it eventually improves the wellbeing of their own farmers and give them an opportunity to grow, that undoubtedly leads to grow the economy of the whole country.
Another reason is that imported goods like food and drinks includes a number of preservatives that allow these to stay in good condition and eatable for a longer period of time, whereas, the local vegetables, fruits and juices are way more fresh and healthy. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 213 words long. This significantly impacts the development of the ideas. While the essay addresses both parts of the prompt—reasons for buying local and the positive/negative trend—the final paragraph is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence. This prevents a full development of the argument and results in an unfinished conclusion. To improve, you must ensure you provide a complete, balanced discussion for each prompt requirement and reach the minimum length to allow for sufficient elaboration of your points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Another reason', and 'Additionally' to structure the response. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt ending disrupts the logical flow of the argument. Referencing is generally clear, but the lack of a concluding summary makes the overall structure feel disjointed. To achieve a higher band, ensure that each paragraph is fully developed and that the essay concludes with a coherent summary of your position.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some repetitive phrasing, such as 'buy the things' and 'imported goods'. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'eatable' instead of 'edible' and 'grow the economy' instead of 'boost the economy'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to economics and consumer behavior, while ensuring that your word choices are natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. For example, 'this phenomena' is a plural noun used with a singular verb, and 'includes' should be 'include' to agree with the plural subject 'goods'. Additionally, there are issues with preposition usage and sentence fragments, such as the incomplete final sentence. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for sentence completeness.
