Student answer (Band 6.0)

A number of buyers are increasingly buying items, which are produced in the regional area, as compared to imported products. This essay will discuss the reasons such as freshness of the items and benefits for the health and its postive effects.

The locals are trying to support the regional small businesses and farmers as a result, they are increasingly buying from them. In addition to this, products are locally produced, which are fresh and free from the pesticides. People can buy them from road side stalls and it provides income to the farmers. People are becoming health conscious, they are aware of the harmful affects of the perservatives used on the items, while trasnporting them around them around the world. On the other side, the imported goods take days or weeks to transport, so they lost the taste and texture. Sometimes, they bring diseases with them. They are over priced due to the cost of trasnportation assoicated with them.

This is postive trend as locals are supporting the local economy. By buying from the same area, farmers gets motivation to grow more variety to fullfil thr demand. For example, in Canada , there are small stalls outside most of the farms for eggs, vegetable and meat. Consequently, people are consuming the food which is favorable for their health as well. Furthermore, they are not getting any virus from other continent which came with the food. These viruses can cause serious demage to the body as individuals have no defence system for foriegn one. Therefore, it is benefical for the national economy and for the health as well.

In conclusion, not only does buying from regional boost business, but also protect the health of the residents. It is win-win for both the buyers and sellers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the point about freshness and supporting the local economy is well-supported, the argument regarding 'viruses' from other continents is scientifically questionable and lacks logical grounding, which weakens the overall persuasiveness of the essay. To reach a higher band, ensure that all supporting arguments are grounded in realistic or logical premises rather than speculative claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this,' 'Consequently,' and 'Furthermore' are used to link ideas. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'they' without clear antecedents. Additionally, some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'The locals are trying to support the regional small businesses and farmers as a result, they are increasingly buying from them,' which would benefit from better punctuation or a clearer transition.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'pesticides' and 'preservatives.' However, there are several spelling errors ('postive', 'perservatives', 'trasnporting', 'foriegn', 'demage') and minor collocation issues, such as 'lost the taste' instead of 'lose their taste.' The range is sufficient to communicate, but the errors in spelling and word choice prevent the response from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with article usage ('the regional area'), subject-verb agreement ('farmers gets motivation'), and punctuation (comma splices). For example, 'People are becoming health conscious, they are aware...' should be two separate sentences or joined with a conjunction. These errors occur frequently but do not impede overall communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and punctuation rules.
