Student answer (Band 6.5)
A majority of the population consciously choose to purchase products from their local vicinity instead of imported items. There are various reasons for this significant increase in the popularity of local products and, from my perspective, is an overall a positive trend.
Firstly, buying products which are available in the local area is cost effective. These items are relatively cheap as compared to imported goods which incur hefty import duty as well as transport fees. If people choose to purchase from the local market, they could get high-quality products for a fraction of the price, helping them save money in the long run.
Furthermore, certain government initiatives encourage the citizens to support local factories with lucrative schemes. This is done with the aim to reduce global imports. For example, the "Make in India" campaign was started to promote local entreprenuers and provide people with subsidies on retail and wholesale purchases. Consequently, allowing people to become more dependent on national items.
In my opinion, this is a positive trend as the act of buying local goods encourages and supports local communities, promoting national artwork and talent. In addition to this, it also creates employment opportunities which strengthens the national economy. For instance, if individuals invest heavily on their national art pieces, struggling local artists will be supported. As a result, this aids any government in generating cash flow and maintaining national cash reserves.
To conclude, purchasing local goods proves to be advantageous for individuals, local communities and the government, making it the superior choice over global products.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing reasons for the trend and a clear opinion on whether it is positive. The ideas are relevant, such as cost-effectiveness and government support, and are supported by examples like the 'Make in India' campaign. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. While the position is clear, the argument could be strengthened by exploring the potential downsides of localism to provide a more balanced perspective, which would help in reaching a higher band. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', and 'In addition to this' are used effectively to guide the reader. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the paragraphing is appropriate. There is a minor issue with the sentence structure in the introduction ('from my perspective, is an overall a positive trend'), which slightly disrupts the flow, but generally, the cohesion is well-managed throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. You have used some good collocations such as 'hefty import duty', 'lucrative schemes', and 'employment opportunities'. There are some minor awkward phrasings, such as 'dependent on national items' (which is slightly imprecise) and 'invest heavily on' (should be 'in'). While the range is adequate to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more sophisticated or varied vocabulary would elevate the score. The spelling is accurate throughout, and the word choice is generally precise enough to avoid confusion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several error-free sentences, which is positive. However, there are some grammatical slips, such as the missing subject in the introduction ('from my perspective, is an overall a positive trend') and the slightly awkward phrasing 'Consequently, allowing people to become more dependent', which is a sentence fragment. Despite these occasional errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the punctuation is generally handled well. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring that all sentences are complete and grammatically sound.
